RECYCLING & REUSING PET
BRINGING PET TO LIFE - AGAIN
What makes drinking from a PET plasticeven more enjoyable is knowing theand cap are fully recyclable. On top of its many other advantages, the fact that PET is 100% recyclable makes it an ideal choice for sustainability aware businesses.
For every PETgiven a second life through recycling we:
PepsiCo: Uses at least 10% recycled PET in its primary carbonated soft drinksin the USA, and is creating partnerships to increase recycling rates to 50% by 2018
R-PET is all around us
PET is such a valuable material that when a PETis recycled it will almost certainly be reused - in the production of new PETor in many other products or applications. The possibilities are virtually limitless.
PET - a winning format at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil
At the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil many of the teams, including the host nation, wore shirts made from recycled PET.
Each kit comprised shirt, shorts and socks and was made using an average of 18 recycled plastic . Since 2010, sportswear manufacturer Nike has recycled almost 2 billion , enough to cover over 2,800 full-sized football pitches.
Education is key
R-PET is obviously popular, however currently demand for it outstrips supply. Key to maximising its sustainability opportunities, is educating consumers about the value of recycling PET .But awareness is increasing, and today PET is the most widely recycled plastic in the world.
'In Europe 52% of all used PETwere recycled in 2012. In the United States, the gross recycling rate for the same period reached 30.8% and the recycling of PET waterincreased by almost 20%.'
Additionally, because of the value of used PET ,collecting for those living in poor regions provides a revenuestream. Still, there is plenty of work ahead before we can reach the goal of 100% collection.
